"An
Introduction to Camping"
(Ages
8-11)
The Program: CCSC's Campers
A-Way (CAW) program has been very successful in
introducing first time campers to the benefits and fun of
a summer camp experience.
Heading off to camp for the first
time can be an anxious and an emotional time for young
campers and their parents.
Because we appreciate the
hesitancy on the part of parents to commit to a 3 or
7-week length of stay, we have established a program that
allows first time campers to join the ranks of our
Resident Camp for a 10 day session rather than the longer
sessions that are generally available in summer camps.
Should a camper find the adjustment
easy and not want to leave, he/she may extend their stay
if *space permits. A great many of our Campers A-Way campers return in future years as half or
full season campers.
4 Sessions: The 1st and 3rd Campers
A-Way sessions actually begin at the same time
as the regular half sessions. These campers may stay
for additional days or weeks if *space permits.
Although the 2nd and 4th Campers
A-Way sessions begin mid-session, they end on
our regular turnover and closing day. This allows
CAW2 and 4 campers the opportunity to experience the
culminating events at the end of a session. Due to
our final closing events, our last Campers A-Way
session is twelve (12) days in length. (See
application
for exact dates.)
CABIN PLACEMENT: Campers
A-Way campers are welcomed into our lower
units. Campers live with the longer session campers
and have the same activity choices. Both the girl's
and the boy's units are small with an excellent staff
ration of 1:3 in the Junior Camps (ages 8-9) and 1:5 in
the Scouts/Middlers (ages 10-11). The extra staff
make it possible to give the children the extra attention
and guidance necessary to insure a happy and fun-filled
first time resident camp experience.
TUITION: The tuition for the Campers
A-Way
program is listed on
application. In addition, a
camp services fee (covering bedding, laundry, infirmary
care, etc.) and an incidental deposit (covering store
books and charges) are added.
* Should children extend their stay,
tuition will be applied on a pro rated basis.
AVAILABILITY: The space
reserved for Campers A-Way is quite
limited with each unit accommodating approximately 6 CAW
campers per session. Because of this limited number
of spaces, it is wise to make an early decision to prevent
disappointments, since all spaces will ultimately be
filled.
Please call Directors, David Peterson
or Sherry Mernick at (508) 896-3451 to inquire as to how
many spaces currently are open in this program. They
will also be happy to answer any further questions or
provide the names of references in your area.
DAYS A-WAY: If you are
interested in an introduction to an overnight camping
program, please consider our
Days A-Way program which is a 5-day/4-night overnight camp
experience through our Day Camp
for children aged 8-13.
