Boston Reunion 2003

When: February 7th2003

Where: Sel de la Terre on State Street across from the Marriott Longwharf

What a snow storm and at the same time, what a reunion.  22 hearty alumni braved a classic heavy snowstorm to attend our reunion held at Sel de la Terre.  Geoff Gardner was our affable host as an owner/chef of the restaurant and we were treated royally.  Loren Alusic (‘85-’02) served as event chairman and did a fantastic job.  We had a great range of notables show up including the illustrious Peter Greene and his wife Liz.  Peter ran our drama program in the 70’s and  80’s and he is definitely missed.  He oversaw one of the most intriguing dance displays ever on a camp stage performed by Peter Cooneyovsky – our version of Rudolf Nureyuv.  It was called the “Flight of the Bumble Bee” and it was a stunning work.  It’s legacy at camp is synonymous with Peter’s.

Perhaps the most fun of the evening was had by our attendance taker – Marlee Giglio.  Marlee was a camper and came with her mother, Mary, who owns and operates a restaurant with her brother in Cambridge.  Marlee provided us all with a lot of fun.  We had a solid group representing the 60’s with Karen Donner Chalfen (W’50-’67), Lainey Finbury (W’ ), and last but not least B.A. Harris (W’59-’71).  Of course, B.A. had the shortest distance to come to the event, followed by Karen and then Peter and Liz, I think.  After that we had a powerful crew from the ‘90’s that were intent on overcoming any obstacle that stood in the way of their attending.    Before we get to that group though, it should be mentioned that David Lutes (M’70-CCSC’87) finally made a winter reunion after a fair dry spell and he couldn’t have picked one more difficult days to do it.  But he did.  Also bridging the gap between the 60’s’ and the 90’s was Chris Mead (CCSC’78-’87).  Chris hasn’t had a lot to do lately except travel around the world, so this was another adventure for him.

Attending from 90’s were Loren Alusic (CCSC’85-’02), Katie Garvey (CCSC’99), the lovely Allison Garvey (CCSC’97-’02), the engaged-to-be-married-to –some-guy-in-NY Brooke Herlihy (CCSC’89-’94), Jen Martinelli (CCSC’88-’97), Nick Martinelli (CCSC’89-’02), Wendy I-can-stay-at-camp-anytime-I-want-to Moyer (W’72-‘CCSC’96), Jaime Ruiz-Cabero (CCSC’89-’92) and his wife Rosario, Laura Smith (CCSC’83-’00) and Scott Willison (CCSC’91-’00).

While we had anticipated that twice as many would show up, the fact is that this was a quality crowd out on a difficult night.  It was great!
